Now this may surprise you, it did me, but Great Britain never, ever invented the humble teddy bear that sits in nearly every ones house and almost every child in the UK, and some adults have at least one in their bedroom. Another fact that we should know is the fact we did not give the teddy bear its name.
Before we go on some facts :
The humble Teddy Bear was invented by a German Company called - Margarete Steiff, and of course we all knew this he/she was named after that great USA President Theodore Roosevelt.
Since the Teddy Bear set foot and made his/her self at home in our homes in the early part of the 20th century, teddy bears seem to have melted people hearts, male and female young or old. They make us laugh, they make us cry, and they also bring back memories of when they were given to us, or we bought them.
Teddy Bears appear at home and also they appear in the workplace and have even advertised items on television. They have appeared in books, comics, films, and TV programs. Teddy Bears are everywhere.
But it is the Teddy Bears that appear in the books we have come to love that made the biggest impact, why I do not know and I guess if you were to ask the authors and people who draw them would say "I do not not know", but we all know that they have and have touched many hearts and not many children have gone to sleep without hearing the great stories of these lovely bears.
Now there are loads of bears out there who we read and hear about and I would guess there will be many more, but there are three bears that have touched the nation and the world. These three bears can account for major sales, whole industries have been built around them and they continue to make money for everyone.
Of course I am talking about Pooh, Paddington and Rupert.
These three bears have captured children and adults alike and have made these same people spend money buying the latest toy, story or DVD and they will always. These three bears will always make people money. So if you see a Pooh, Rupert, or Paddington that needs a good home at a car boot sale, take a closer look, and give them a good home.
And if they do not sell, they will be there beside you for many a day to make you smile and laugh, why.... well they are Pooh, Paddington and Rupert, and with these three anything could happen and who knows you might just pick up a vintage one and then you will be smiling all the way to the bank.
